Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Dual Fuel
Compressed Natural Gas

Natural gas or methane is produced from gas wells or in conjunction with crude oil production. Natural gas is clean burning, domestically produced, and readily available. Natural gas engines have shown a decrease of over 90% reductions in carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter and more than 50% reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) relative to commercial diesel engines. Natural gas can be stored onboard as compressed natural gas or liquefied natural gas (LNG). It can also be blended with hydrogen as a fuel blend. Natural gas can reduce carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, by 30-40%.

SAE Energy CNG System can be fitted with turbo-charged diesel engines like our hydrogen system. It allows the substitution of diesel with CNG and can be fitted to your vehicle without significant engine modifications. The gas delivering system coupled both ECU and Derating module allow CNG to be substituted safely at levels up to 50%. This allows decreased diesel usage while improving emissions. The ECU monitors many parameters and will ensure amounts of CNG are delivered, mixed, and introduced into the engine to take advantage of the fuel substitution. There has been many hours spent in vehicle mapping curves to provide the best power output while lowering emissions. The system will also monitor gas delivery and shut down the flow of CNG if a problem occurs. SAE Energy will provide the tank and fueling options to best fit your vehicle needs. This is the same system installed on the multi-fueled Hummer H1 seen at the Las Vegas 2006 SEMA show.
